# Create an order

> Sell to a customer by hand: pick who is buying, add products and quantities, set the price, and place the order.

Most orders arrive on their own, from your storefront or a connected sales channel. When you want to sell directly, for example to a customer you invoiced or someone who paid you off-platform, you create the order by hand. An order can hold several products, each with its own quantity and price.

## Create the order

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the order form">
    Go to **Orders** and select **New Order**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose a customer">
    Search your customers and pick one, or add a new customer without leaving the form. A customer is required. The form will not create the order until you select one.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add products and quantities">
    Under **Products**, pick a product, set the quantity, and enter the unit price. Select **Add product** to add another line. Each line shows how much stock you have, so you can see whether the order can be fulfilled from inventory.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the payment details">
    Choose the **Currency** for the order, and turn **Prices include tax** on or off to say whether the prices you typed already include tax. TokenSupply works out the subtotal, any tax, and the total for you. You do not type the totals yourself.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose how it is delivered">
    Pick **Automated fulfillment** to email the keys as soon as the order is paid, or **Manual fulfillment** to deliver later from the order page. Choose the email template the buyer will receive. A template is required for automated delivery.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add a note for your team">
    Optionally add an **Internal order note**. Your team sees it on the order. The buyer does not.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Place the order">
    If you have already been paid, tick **Mark as paid** and confirm. Tick it again to undo with **Mark as unpaid**. Then select **Create Order**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  Not ready to place it yet? Select **Save Draft**. The draft is kept in this browser and comes back the next time you open the form here.
</Tip>

<Note>
  Each key in an order uses one credit from your billing balance. Before the order is created, TokenSupply checks that you have enough credits and enough stock for every line, and tells you if you are short. See [Plans and credits](/guides/billing/plans-and-credits).
</Note>

## What happens next

Where the order lands depends on the choices above:

* **Paid and set to automated delivery** delivers straight away: keys are pulled from stock, a private delivery link is created, and the buyer is emailed.
* **Set to manual delivery** holds its keys until you deliver it from the order page.
* **Unpaid and set to automated delivery** is held until it is paid. Mark it paid from the order to move it along.

## Order statuses

Every order carries a status you can filter and sort by:

| Status    | What it means                                                                                 |
| --------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Pending | The order is placed and its keys are being set aside. |
| Reserved | Keys are held for the order while it waits for payment, or for you to deliver it by hand. |
| Delivered | Keys have been issued and the buyer has a delivery link. |
| Completed | The buyer has revealed every key, or you marked the delivered order as finished. |
| Refunded | You refunded the order. The delivery link is revoked and the keys are released back to stock. |
| Cancelled | Cancelled before delivery. Reserved stock is released and no charge or delivery was made. |
| Failed | Fulfilment could not complete, for example there was not enough stock. |

<Tip>
  Not enough stock at fulfilment time stops the order safely rather than delivering a partial or wrong key. Load more inventory, then deliver again.
